Vasco da Gama have moved to secure a key piece of their back line, signalling intent to keep centre-back Carlos Cuesta beyond his loan. The Galatasaray defender has impressed during his spell in Rio.
According to PaponaColina, information from Türkiye indicates the club have given a positive signal to exercise the clause to buy 90 percent of the Colombian for €5.75 million.
That stance does not mean the option will be activated immediately, rather Galatasaray have been notified of Vasco’s intention.
An extension of the loan through to the end of 2026 also remains on the table, with the current deal due to run until the end of 2025. At today’s rates, the outlay equates to about R$ 38 million.
The club’s position rules out a return to Europe and points to Cuesta continuing his career in Brazil, where he is set to be a defensive pillar in 2026. The move is seen as important to guard against a break up of the back line amid speculation over other players.
