Vasco will stick to their Copa Sudamericana plan, travelling to Paraguay with under-20 reinforcements. They face Olimpia on Wednesday in a decisive Group G fifth-round match at Defensores del Chaco, kick-off 19:00 Brasília time.
According to Lance, the youngsters called up are Bruno André, Bruno Lopes, Zuccarello, Samuel, Alison, Andrey Fernandes and Gustavo Guimarães. Avellar and Ramon Rique, who have been with the senior group in recent weeks, are also in the travelling party.
The fixture is pivotal for the club’s campaign. Both teams are on seven points, but Renato Gaúcho’s side lead the group on head-to-head, the competition’s first tie-breaker.
With the Brasileiro set as the season’s priority, the expectation is that some starters will again be rested and begin on the bench.
A win would secure first place with a round to spare. There had been an expectation of full strength against Olimpia to ease the schedule.
If they finish second, the team would face two more matches and need to navigate the Sudamericana play-offs against a side dropping from the Copa Libertadores.
The squad completed their final session at CT Moacyr Barbosa on Tuesday morning and will fly to Asunción later in the day.
