Vasco have begun a three-week break for the squad, but the hierarchy will keep working on plans for the second half of the year during the World Cup pause. The team are due back at CT Moacyr Barbosa on 22, when left-back Paulinho will join the group.
According to Globo.com, the 21-year-old signed a pre-contract earlier this year and has been released early by América-MG, with his deal there set to end in late June.
The coming weeks will centre on the transfer market as Vasco look to correct course and move out of the relegation zone. Priorities include a right-sided centre-back with physical presence and aerial strength, a defensive midfielder, and at least one forward.
With three weeks off, the internal expectation is to advance negotiations during the stoppage so newcomers can be integrated quickly on the Brasileirão’s resumption.
Departures are also anticipated. Matheus França is the first confirmed exit, granted leave for the break. On loan from Crystal Palace, the midfielder did not convince the coaching staff at São Januário, and the club chose not to pursue an extension.
Further exits are likely, particularly among players who have not crossed the CBF limit of 12 league matches and could still attract domestic interest and play for other teams in the competition.
