Vasco’s 3-3 draw at Mineirão ended amid fury at the officiating, with club president Pedrinho confronting referee Lucas Paulo Torezin in the tunnel as tempers flared.
According to Globo.com, the flashpoint began late on when Vasco sought to slow play and someone from the bench threw a ball onto the pitch. The referee halted the game and dismissed a member of Renato Gaúcho’s coaching staff.
At full time Torezin showed further cards during a scuffle involving players from Cruzeiro and Vasco near the centre of the pitch.
In the tunnel, Pedrinho advanced towards the officials and protested that two penalties had not been awarded. He had to be restrained by staff.
As police moved in there was pushing and shoving. One officer deployed pepper spray, which drifted into the mixed zone used by journalists and players. Vasco security then held the president back.
The match itself was breathless. Cruzeiro were better in the first half and led, before Vasco hit back after the break to turn it around. Vasco lost Barros to a red card, conceded an equaliser, then scored a third but could not see it out, leaving with a point.
