Vasco v Corinthians: CBF appoints referee recently criticised by Coutinho for the final | OneFootball

Wilton Pereira Sampaio has been appointed to referee Vasco da Gama v Corinthians in Sunday’s Copa do Brasil final at the Maracanã, following a public hearing by the CBF.

According to PaponaColina, the appointment brings an immediate reunion between the official and Vasco’s leading figure, Philippe Coutinho, after recent tensions.

Sampaio took charge of the semi-final second leg against Fluminense, a night when Vasco progressed on penalties, but his display left Coutinho dissatisfied.

As he left the pitch, the No 11 complained about a lack of dialogue and characterised the referee’s behaviour as disrespectful. That backdrop places extra scrutiny on his player management on Sunday.

Bruno Boschilia and Victor Imazu will run the lines, with Marco Fazeka on VAR. The tie is level at 0-0, and kick-off is at 18:00.
