The second leg of the Copa do Brasil final between Vasco and Corinthians will be played at the Maracanã, the CBF announced. The match is scheduled for Sunday, 21 December at 18:30 Brasília time.

Vasco had explored the idea of staging the return at São Januário, but that option did not materialise.

Following their penalty shootout victory over Fluminense on Sunday night, some players publicly pushed for São Januário. Rayan said he hoped the return would be there so they could celebrate with the supporters, while Robert Renan said he preferred the venue and thought no Vasco team had been crowned there.

The decision also reflected São Januário’s smaller capacity, about 22,000 compared with around 78,000 at the Maracanã, alongside considerations over fan safety.

This will be Vasco’s third Copa do Brasil final. In 2006 they lost to Flamengo, with both matches played at the Maracanã. In 2011 they beat Coritiba to win their first title, with the first leg at São Januário and the return at Couto Pereira.
