Vasco drew 0-0 with Madureira on Monday, missing the chance to book a Carioca quarter-final place. Fernando Diniz’s side will now decide it in the clássico with Botafogo on Sunday, eight February.

According to Globo.com, Vasco have eight points and sit fourth in Group A, with the top four progressing. Their main threat is Sampaio Corrêa, who face Flamengo at the Maracanã on Saturday.

As a result, Vasco may need help from their rivals. If they beat Botafogo they are through.

If they draw, they must hope Sampaio do not defeat Flamengo. If they lose, Sampaio must also lose.

A Sampaio draw would send the final spot to goal difference. Vasco are currently on plus four, Sampaio on minus one.
