According to Diario Do Peixe, centre-back Lucas Veríssimo has boarded a flight from Doha to São Paulo and is expected to land at 22:00 on Thursday.

He is travelling with his wife Amanda and their children, Samuel and Mirella. The family had struggled to secure tickets in recent days amid cancellations, but eventually boarded without issues.

Veríssimo had been in Qatar with Al-Duhail, who ended his contract to allow a move to Santos. The country has been affected by conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with missiles reported and periods of airport closures, as well as restrictions across other Middle East airspace.

He is registered on the CBF’s BID and can make his Santos return. Even so, after the long trip and with fitness to build, he may not be named to face Corinthians at 16:00 on Sunday 15 at Vila Belmiro in the sixth round of the Brasileirão.

He returns for a second spell at the Alvinegro, with the delicate situation in Qatar among the reasons. He has signed until 2028, with Santos committing 4 million euros plus bonuses that could reach 5 million, concluded late in the window. The first instalment is due in December, with four annual payments.

A Santos academy graduate, he has 190 appearances and 7 goals for the club, winning the Copinha in 2013 and the Paulista in 2016, and finishing as Libertadores runners-up in 2021. His career also includes Benfica (Portugal), Corinthians, Al-Duhail (Qatar) and a loan at Al-Wakrah (Qatar).
