FC Bayern is apparently exploring the transfer market and has apparently targeted Nico Schlotterbeck. The BVB defender could strengthen the German record champions in the summer, while Dortmund are currently fighting for a contract extension with their defensive leader.

Will Schlotterbeck move to FC Bayern in the summer?

Nico Schlotterbeck has made an impressive return to Borussia Dortmund after a long injury layoff. Nevertheless, the center-back’s future remains uncertain – and rumors of a move to Bayern Munich are circulating. According to the portal „fichajes.net,“ the Munich club are already considering whether Schlotterbeck is available for a central defense position next summer. The German record champions could therefore see the BVB defender as the successor to Dayot Upamecano, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

For Schlotterbeck himself, a move to Munich is said to be quite appealing. Dortmund, on the other hand, wants to keep the international long-term. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl emphasized to Sky: „We’ve been in talks for a long time. I can promise we’re working on it. It will take a few more days.“ Kehl added that the delay wasn’t due to a lack of conviction: „It’s more about him wanting to find his feet, get into a rhythm, and pursuing big goals – hopefully with BVB.“

Contract extension at BVB: Schlotterbeck sets conditions

In addition to the sporting aspect, financial considerations also appear to play a role. According to information from „Bild,“ BVB is offering the 25-year-old an annual salary of around ten million euros, which would significantly increase his salary. However, the central defender is still hesitant, as he wants to ensure that he has a realistic chance of winning titles with Dortmund.

Furthermore, Schlotterbeck could potentially take on an even larger role at the club. In addition to the higher salary, he could take over the captain’s armband from Emre Can and become the new face of the club. „Of course, it makes a difference whether you’re in eleventh place in March, which wasn’t my goal, or you’re playing in the Champions League again now,“ the fan favorite explained in a recent interview with WAZ newspaper.

The coming weeks will show whether Dortmund and Schlotterbeck can agree on a contract extension – or whether the BVB defensive leader will actually make the jump to FC Bayern.
