Chelsea are in dreamland in New York City.
Cole Palmer had scored two first half goals two put his team into a healthy lead – now he’s added a superb assist to make this game feel close to over before half time.
It was another quick transition goal, and once again Palmer was given far too much space on the edge of the box by the Parisians. Not only that, but their wilting midfield didn’t track Joao Pedro as he ghosted between the central defenders.
Palmer showed some perfect poise and “pausa” to slow down for a second to allow the run to develop, then simply threaded it through to the Brazilian. His finish was utterly superb, casually lifting the ball over Gigi Donnarumma.
It’s been a great performance from Chelsea, who have shown more belief and energy from the first whistle. Meanwhile PSG, who have swept all before them this season, have simply not shown up today. It’s not over yet – but it almost is.

It wasn’t just a superb finish from Joao Pedro, it’s one which bodes so well for the season to come. For all of Nicolas Jackson’s many qualities, he wasn’t a natural scorer and didn’t look like he would ever become one.
JP, despite not having an amazing non penalty goal record, has shown with his 3 goals in blue already that he’s on the next level technically, especially in front of goal. With Palmer feeding him, he could score a hatful this season, and we can’t wait to see it.
We’ve gone from one rough diamond up top to 3 really strong options – at last!
