Moises Caicedo sent off against Argentina

It will have been a relief for Chelsea fans to see Caicedo named in the team, after his absence in the previous game.

However, Caicedo lasted only 50 minutes as he was sent off for two yellow cards, but given it was the last World Cup Qualifier he will instead miss the opening game of the World Cup next summer.

Chelsea fans would have been hoping he would have been suspended for the next international break so he could have a well needed rest, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case.

Caicedo is once again going to be a key player for the Blues, and he started all 38 Premier League games last season.

The former Brighton man is arguably the best midfielder in the league, but given the amount of football he’s played Chelsea will need to manage him carefully this season.

Dario Essugo suffers injury setback

Chelsea signed cover for Caicedo in the form of Dario Essugo this summer, and the 20-year-old made his debut at the Club World Cup.

The former Sporting Lisbon man has yet to feature in the opening three games of the Premier League, and he will have to wait a while longer after suffering a thigh injury.

Essugo underwent successful surgery after picking up an injury whilst with the Portugal under-21s, and is now set for an extended period on the sidelines, but to slightly soften the blow Romeo Lavia has returned to Chelsea.
