During the Moroccan national team's training camp, Walid Regragui honored Achraf Hakimi who finished 6th in the 2025 Ballon d'Or rankings.
During Monday’s training session in Rabat, Regragui paused preparations to publicly congratulate the Paris Saint Germain full back for his remarkable achievement.
Hakimi became the 1st Moroccan player ever to rank this high in the Ballon d’Or voting .. a recognition of his outstanding season with PSG.
Addressing his squad, the Moroccan coach said:
"Sixth in the Ballon d’Or but you deserve more. No Moroccan has ever done this before. Achraf's arole model. Everyone here should think .. if he reached sixth, I can reach 5th, 4th or even win it 1 day. That’s the mindset we need".
Regragui also highlighted the achievements of other key players. He congratulated Yassine Bounou, Al Hilal’s goalkeeper, for finishing 5th in the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the world’s best goalkeepers.
He further applauded Ayoub El Kaabi who earned the Best Player award in the Greek league calling these accomplishments "a source of pride" for Moroccan football.
After securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World cup, Morocco continue their preparations with friendly against Bahrain on Thursday followed by World cup qualifier against Congo next Tuesday.
Meanwhile speculation continues around Hakimi’s long term future, with reports in Spain suggesting that potential return to Real Madrid "has never been ruled out".
