San Lorenzo have signed Luciano Vietto on a free after his Racing exit. According to Radiogol.com, he has penned a one-year contract, with the possibility of extending it by two further seasons if he meets appearance-based targets. He signed this afternoon.
The Boedo club view it as a market opportunity, adding a proven attacker with extensive European experience without straining finances. His year at Racing was mixed, affected by injuries and back trouble that kept him out for spells.
In Avellaneda he lifted the Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa, scoring against Botafogo in the first leg. Across 2025 he played 29 matches, with five goals and one assist.
At his medical, Vietto said he feels quite well and has been training alone, though he needs sessions with team-mates. He indicated he would be willing to feature at the weekend if the coach considers it. He added that San Lorenzo are giving him a chance after leaving Racing without a club, that speaking to Damián Ayude mattered, and that he wants to show he still has plenty to give.
Argentinos Juniors, Talleres and Estudiantes de La Plata were among the Argentine clubs to enquire, while Chile’s Colo Colo also tracked him. San Lorenzo’s proposal ultimately swayed the decision.
Hype aside, whether Vietto can recover his best level and, crucially, avoid further setbacks remains to be seen. He missed 16 games last year through fitness issues.
