Vila Belmiro features in Netflix’s miniseries "A Saga do Tri", charting the Seleção Brasileira’s 1970 World Cup triumph. The production, comprising five episodes, was released last Friday, 29.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the Santos stadium appears in the opening episode in a scene featuring Pelé, played by Lucas Agrícola, and João Saldanha, portrayed by Rodrigo Santoro. Set before the World Cup in Mexico, the sequence shows the then Brazil coach trying to persuade the forward to return to the national team after 1966.

The choice of Vila Belmiro, fondly nicknamed "O Templo do Futebol", underlines its bond with the Seleção Brasileira’s history. Pelé built much of his career at Santos and became a leading figure in the run that delivered Brazil’s third world title.

The series revisits defining moments from the cycle leading up to 1970 and includes other figures involved in the team’s preparation and campaign.

After the release, Lucas Agrícola said portraying Pelé was among the most intense and special experiences of his life, requiring months of dedication, study and emotion, and deep affection for a story that touched generations.

Filming also took in locations across the Baixada Santista, including stretches of the Centro Histórico de Santos and areas of São Vicente used to recreate the era. Further shoots were held in cities in the São Paulo interior and in Rio de Janeiro.
