Aston Villa boss Unai Emery confirmed John McGinn suffered a knee injury in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Thierno Barry scored the only goal of the game as Villa missed the chance to go four points behind league leaders Arsenal.

McGinn was forced off in the first half and asked about McGinn’s injury, Emery said: “Of course when some players are getting injured, it is not good.

“It is football and we have to accept it. It is another opportunity for other players to play.

“I don’t know, it’s his knee.”

Meanwhile, Boubacar Kamara missed the game completely and Emery says he is expecting more information on the severity of his injury this week.

“I think this week we will know something more about Kamara,” Emery said. “At the moment, Kamara is out.”

But Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley are closing in on returns.

“Onana and Barkley they are coming back in one week or two weeks,” Emery added.

On the possibility of more January signings, Emery said: “We have enough players to get the performance we need. Of course, we must replace some players if they are leaving.”
