According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Villarreal are searching for a new goalkeeper as Arnau Tenas prepares to join Real Mallorca on loan and there is, for now, no agreement with RB Leipzig over Péter Gulácsi.

Iñigo Pérez began with Luiz Júnior, Tenas and Diego Conde, but the club told the two Spaniards they were not in the plans. Villarreal intend to keep Luiz Júnior as first choice and add an experienced Champions League-level rival.

The first move came this week, with Conde joining Real Betis on a season-long loan with a non-obligatory 6 million euros option. Tenas is expected to depart after weighing offers from Elche, Levante, Real Mallorca and Almería, with the Balearic side preferred.

Tenas did not travel on Friday to the Netherlands for Villarreal’s trip to Eindhoven via Maastricht from València Airport. The clubs have a provisional agreement for a loan with an option to buy, which would become obligatory in the event of promotion to Primera División.

Wages would be shared between the clubs, while Mallorca offer a more ambitious project and greater continuity than his other suitors. Official confirmation is anticipated in the coming hours or days.

Villarreal are negotiating for Gulácsi, 36, a Hungary international with vast Bundesliga and Champions League experience. The player and Villarreal have terms in place, but Leipzig want a fee. Gulácsi would lower his salary to move to Miralcamp, yet he wants his full remaining year paid, part of which Leipzig would need to cover.
