FC Porto president André Villas-Boas used an editorial in the latest Revista Dragões to criticise Benfica over its disciplinary request in the emails case.
According to O Jogo, Benfica petitioned the FPF Disciplinary Council seeking sporting sanctions against Porto.
Villas-Boas wrote that a Portuguese sports association, which he said was known for hiring priests to hold masses at sporting events, had asked the council to punish Porto for disclosing those practices.
He added that Porto wished the justice system luck in proving the facts in line with the gravity of the material, warning the likelihood of a Gonçalves being used as a scapegoat was very high.
He argued these bleak realities, and an evident inability to manage Portuguese football, damage the credibility of institutions. He said some now miss Porto’s ball boys and the Dragão dressing-room decor, which, in his view, once helped cover other practices.
