Flamengo are monitoring the left-back market and remain in contact over Matias Viña, who is on loan at River Plate until the end of the year and is not expected to be used. The Uruguay international is currently at the World Cup.
Flamengo have not received any indication from River about ending the loan early. If the Argentines sought to break the deal they would need to pay a penalty, and the Buenos Aires club are covering his wages until December.
Viña has had limited minutes and mixed reviews so far, with 14 appearances, 10 starts. Reflecting on his decision to join River, he said: “It was an important step to go to River to find more continuity, which I did not have at Flamengo. I left thinking about the World Cup, to arrive with more rhythm.” He told FIFA.
His loan includes a purchase option that could become an obligation depending on River’s team performance targets. His Flamengo contract runs until 2028.
The left flank is under review at Flamengo in this transfer window. A renewal with Alex Sandro to the end of 2027 is close, and Ayrton Lucas remains under contract. There is currently no offer or movement for a departure.
