Pep Guardiola was given a farewell ceremony at the Etihad on Monday night, a day after his final match in charge of Manchester City, a 1-2 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

According to L'Équipe, all 20 trophies from his decade were on display, and the North Stand will soon bear his name. After a parade through Manchester on City-themed buses, leading figures of his era headed to a sold-out Etihad Stadium.

Current and former players and staff, members of the women’s team, and Noel Gallagher joined supporters to celebrate. The haul, six Premier League, three FA Cup, five League Cup, three Community Shield, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one Club World Cup, was lifted piece by piece by club icons.

Amid appearances by Erling Haaland, Rodri and Ederson, the return of Vincent Kompany drew particular acclaim. Now coaching Bayern Munich and fresh from winning the German Cup, he raised one of Guardiola’s six league trophies to roars from the stands.

A video message from Michael Jordan surprised the crowd, congratulating Guardiola on his career, wishing him well in retirement and joking about keeping his golf shots straight. The 55-year-old said he was touched and that he had not known Jordan was aware of him.

Guardiola closed by thanking City supporters, saying he could never be grateful enough and that they would always have a place close to his heart.
