Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany conducted an interesting Champions League press conference on Tuesday. The 39-year-old spoke at great length about the disappointments associated with international competition in his first year in charge of the Bundesliga outfit, specifically referencing Champions League elimination against Inter Milan and the summer Club World Cup elimination against PSG.

The real action nevertheless came after Kompany addressed the Inter Milan and PSG fixtures. Kompany reminded the interpreter that his years spent playing for Hamburg in the Bundesliga left him fluent in both English and German. All Germans will agree that Kompany speaks outstanding German, though his English wasn’t necessarily flawless. Kompany incorrectly referred to the live “interpreter” as a “translator“.
