Marshall Munetsi's time at Molineux could be coming to a swift end

Wolverhampton Wanderers are braced for a critical summer transfer window, which also coincides with the club's first pre-season under Rob Edwards' management after an unwanted relegation from the Premier League.

Having previously done well to continue their upward trajectory in the top-flight following promotion from the Championship as title winners eight years ago, the Old Gold and Black have recently been on a downward curve, and that was epitomised by their performances throughout 2025/26.

Vitor Pereira's first full season at Molineux started in extremely disastrous fashion, and the Portuguese was relieved of his duties in November, which paved the way for Edwards' controversial move back to WV1.

The former Middlesbrough boss was also unable to earn a first league victory of the season until January 2nd, which ironically, came at home against fellow newly-relegated outfit, West Ham United, meaning the writing was further on the wall by that stage as far as relegation was concerned.

Despite a relative upturn in fortunes for a brief period, Wanderers still ended the campaign at the foot of the Premier League table, two points behind Burnley, but are already being fancied to launch an immediate promotion bid under the 43-year-old.

Rather unsurprisingly, transfer speculation has already been rife on the incomings and outgoings front, and the club's first signing of the summer has now been confirmed in the form of ex-Newcastle United and England international full-back, Kieran Trippier, on a free transfer.

Such an eye-catching move follows on from Brazilian midfielder, Andre, signing a fresh four-year contract in the West Midlands despite previous anticipation that he would move on, much like some of his departmental counterparts.

Marshall Munetsi's expected exit from Wolves takes another twist

Indeed, one of the moves Wolves did make in Edwards' first transfer window as head coach was to sanction the loan departure of Zimbabwean international midfielder, Marshall Munetsi.

As a result of said move, the 29-year-old would spend the second half of the 2025/26 campaign back in Ligue 1 with Paris FC, who eventually went on to finish 11th in the French top-flight in their first season after promotion, some 20 points clear of FC Nantes in the relegation zone.

Along with the large relative success enjoyed by the capital club, Munetsi returned to form at the Stade Jean-Bouin, scoring four times and providing a further two assists in just 15 league appearances, compared to his prior struggles for form at Molineux.

Unsurprisingly, claims have emerged that Antoine Kombouaré's outfit did explore the potential permanent acquisition of the 36-time international, who was also said to have favoured those sets of circumstances.

However, Pereira, who signed Munetsi for Wolves for approximately £16.6m last February from Stade de Reims, has reportedly been keen on adding him to his Nottingham Forest midfield ahead of a first pre-season at the City Ground after ensuring Premier League survival for the Reds.

French publication, Jeunes Footeux, have now stated that Munetsi's valuation and wage demands are out of Paris FC's ballpark due to his age, and that this is seen as a major boost for the East Midlands outfit, who have begun talks with the midfielder's representatives.

Munetsi, of course, isn't the only Wolves midfielder being the subject of intense transfer interest at this moment in time, further emphasising the need for Edwards and his recruitment team to target replacements in this department as soon as possible.

Joao Gomes' future away from Molineux has also been well-documented, with Atlético Madrid agreeing a reported £39m deal in principle, which is still yet to be fully finalised.

On the incomings front, the Midlands side have been heavily linked with a potential move for former Birmingham City academy graduate and Welsh international, Jordan James, but face strong competition from clubs such as Villarreal and Atalanta, both of whom could offer European football to the 21-year-old.

Munetsi does still have two years left on his contract, though, meaning it is no surprise that Wolves are looking to recoup as much of the aforementioned sum as possible to reinvest into Edwards' new-look squad.
