Santos head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda set out why he left Lautaro Díaz on for longer during the 0-0 draw with Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena on Sunday.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the decision drew questions in the stands when Rollheiser was introduced after the break and many expected one of the strikers to make way.
Santos started with Gabriel Barbosa and Lautaro in attack but struggled for creativity. Vojvoda withdrew Miguelito rather than Lautaro, prompting boos, then later replaced Lautaro with Mateus Xavier.
In his post-match briefing, he said he kept the forward on to retain attacking threat, viewed Rollheiser as similar in profile to Miguelito, and considered using him centrally with Miguelito wide to attack space on the left. He added that Mateus Xavier was sent on to add depth, but the plan did not bring the desired outcome.
The draw moves Santos to 6 points in the Campeonato Paulista, sitting provisionally 10th, with only the top eight advancing. Capivariano are eighth with 7 points.
Three fixtures remain in the state competition, away to São Paulo and Noroeste, then Velo Clube at Vila Belmiro. Santos now switch focus to the Campeonato Brasileiro opener against Chapecoense on Wednesday 28 at 20:00.
