Wallace Yan expected to bolster Flamengo under-20s as Pedro returns early | OneFootball

Flamengo’s under-20s will have at least one reinforcement for Sunday’s Carioca opener against Portuguesa in Volta Redonda, with forward Wallace Yan back in training and expected to feature for Bruno Pivetti’s side in the early rounds.

According to Globo.com, Pedro has also resumed work ahead of the senior squad’s return on 12 January. The number nine was back at Ninho do Urubu on Thursday.

He will not join the youth team, having chosen to report early to speed up his pre-season. He missed the end of 2025 with a right forearm fracture and a left thigh injury, returned after almost two months to face Pyramids in the Intercontinental Cup and also appeared in the final against PSG.

Flamengo’s staff have given all players a one-week introductory programme before the squad reconvenes. The plan includes individual exercises to be done at home, in the gym or at the training centre.

Wallace Yan’s last match was against Mirassol on the final day of the Campeonato Brasileiro. With the title secured, Flamengo brought forward their trip to Qatar and fielded a youthful side. He later joined Filipe Luís’s group but did not play in any of the three games.

As the professionals only began their holidays on 18 December, Flamengo extended the break and will use the under-20s for at least the first three Carioca fixtures. The main squad are likely to return for the clássico against Vasco on 21 January.
