Mac Allister Sends Strong Message Ahead of New Liverpool Season

Alexis Mac Allister is a player who leads by example, and as Liverpool prepare for another demanding Premier League campaign, the midfielder has sent out a clear message about his mindset. The Argentinian international has no interest in holding back. “I always say that you have to go 100 per cent every single game,” he said, speaking to GQ via LFC.

The 2023 signing from Brighton & Hove Albion has already achieved plenty in a short space of time. He won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, then helped Liverpool lift silverware. Now, his focus is on defending both of those achievements.

Inspiration From Premier League Icons

Mac Allister reflected on the players who shaped his own footballing journey. “When I was younger, there weren’t many Argentinians in the Premier League but I used to wake up very early in the mornings to watch players like Carlos Tevez and Maxi Rodriguez,” he recalled.

That experience fuels his determination to inspire others. “I was a big fan of the Premier League, so I hope the next generations are doing the same with us, not just with me but with Argentinian players in general,” he added.

Mentality For Success

Liverpool will be relying on Mac Allister’s ability to drive standards in a season full of challenges. He knows there will be fierce competition on the international stage next summer. “It’s not going to be easy [to defend the World Cup] because there will be a lot of good teams, really good players and we understand it’s not easy to win two in a row. But we hope the next one is a big one for Argentina as well, and that we can defend the trophy and win another one. That’s the mentality we have, we always want more.”

Importantly, Mac Allister is not letting the fear of injury or the distraction of future tournaments cloud his approach. “I don’t think about the future. I know some players worry about getting injured before the World Cup, but I don’t think that way,” he explained.

Life Beyond Football

Off the pitch, there is another significant milestone coming. Mac Allister is set to become a father. “It sounds funny, but I really like football, for me it’s my passion and the only thing I really enjoy… until now because [my girlfriend and I] are having a baby girl,” he said.

Support from team-mates has been invaluable. “I’ve received advice from Cody Gakpo, and Dominik [Szoboszlai] is having a baby too, which is nice because we are in another part of the world from our families so we need that help.”

Connection With Liverpool’s Heritage

As part of the launch of Liverpool’s new adidas third kit, Mac Allister spoke about his appreciation for the design. “I’m a huge fan of vintage shirts,” he said. “I have a strong connection with adidas because of Argentina but in the past Liverpool have had some really, really good shirts with adidas. That’s something both the fans and players want to see again because certain shirts represent an attachment to the past.”

For Liverpool fans, his words send a clear message. Mac Allister is committed to driving this team forward in the Premier League and in Europe, while embracing the history and responsibility of wearing the shirt.
