You’ve just spent all summer waiting for Premier League football to return, you get a taste of it, then it’s taken away from you for a fortnight. Agony.
That long summer break was tempered a little for Chelsea fans by the fact that they had the Club World Cup through June and July, but there’s another thing they’re waiting for which has taken years to return.
The Champions League.
Chelsea haven’t been in it since 2023, and the fans can’t wait for it. We’re just two weeks away now from a thrilling trip to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich to kick things off. That’s not only an important game for our campaign in the competition, it’s also a symbolic occasion.
One player who is super keen to get back to Champions League action is Malo Gusto, who agreed a deal to join the Blues just before their last appearance in the competition, and has yet to play in it in his career.
“We want to fight against the best teams in the world,’ said the Frenchman in quotes on the official Chelsea website.
“Now we can show why we deserve to fight against these types of teams. We are really excited. People respect us and know we are a good team that plays well. We need to show this in the Champions League.”
Gusto has an important role to play in our European adventures this year. Reece James is first choice at right back but can only play once every week. French international Gusto is going to play a lot in the Champions League when James is playing domestically, or vice versa.
