Lile head coach Bruno Genesio has praised Liverpool FC, Les Dogues‘ opponents in Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League. The table-topping Reds host the Ligue 1 side this Tuesday night at Anfield. The Reds’ head coach Arne Slot has lauded Genesio for Lille’s progress in the Champions League and the former Lyon and Rennes manager returned the favour.

Against this opponent, there will be moments when we will be forced to do things that we are not really used to“, Genesio said in his pre-game presser at Anfield. “We will take into account their strengths and put measures in place to counter them, because no one comes here thinking about giving a football masterclass with 80 % possession.”

Genesio has previewed Liverpool and was adamant facing the Reds would be Lille’s “greatest challenge” of the season. “We can only admire what the coach [Slot] does, what this team do, and it’s been a while now“, added Genesio. “They are consistent (…) They only lost two games since the start of the season. They’re top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League, in which they only conceded one goal.

Genesio concluded his presser by saying Lille prepared accordingly to face Liverpool and that he expected Les Dogues to replicate at Anfield the form they’ve shown so far in the Champions League. Lille notably defeated holders Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and drew to Juventus so far.
