Chelsea are preparing to headline this weekend’s Premier League action with a blockbuster trip to Old Trafford, where they’ll take on Manchester United.
The Blues head into this weekend’s contest on the back of a crushing 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
It’s not the start Enzo Maresca and his troops wanted, but they now have to turn their attention back to domestic action, where they’ll be looking to preserve their unbeaten record.
With two wins and two draws from four games, Maresca’s side sit fifth on the table, five points from runaway leaders and reigning champions Liverpool.
The Blues will be keen to bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat, and a game against a struggling United side reeling from a damning Manchester derby defeat couldn’t have come at a better time.
However, the Blues’ record at Old Trafford has been dreadful, and to top it off, Maresca has issued a concerning injury update ahead of the mouth-watering contest.
The good news for Chelsea is that Cole Palmer has been declared fit and ready to start against United on Saturday.
During his pre-match media briefing, Maresca said: “Cole [Palmer] is okay. We need to assess some players, we have some doubts.
“We didn’t have a session since Wednesday’s game, but we will see.”
Palmer got on the score sheet on his Champions League debut for the Blues. He nearly got a brace but was denied his second of the night by a marginal offside call.
The England international will be one of the first names on the team sheet as Chelsea look to end their abysmal record at Old Trafford.
However, he’d have to share the spotlight with Alejandro Garnacho, whose imminent return to the Theatre of Dreams has made the headlines.
Maresca also confirmed that the Argentine winger is ready to make his full debut this weekend.
“In the last two games, he was very good when he came on,” Maresca said.
“So we are happy with the way he has adapted to our style and what we want from the winger. I think he is ready to start.”
