FC Bayern are in absolute top form at the moment – and the German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is hoping that the record champions‘ impressive run will inspire the German national team.

Ahead of the final World Cup qualifiers in Luxembourg on Friday and against Slovakia on 17 November, Nagelsmann is once again relying more heavily on players from Munich. The reason: the so-called Bayern block has bounced back – with a stable defence, creative attacking play and great team spirit.

„It’s very good for us that they are so stable, defend well and have a good spirit. We need that spirit too!“ explained the 38-year-old.

Bayern form as the basis for DFB stability

In recent years, the proportion of Munich players in the DFB squad had shrunk significantly, with VfB Stuttgart professionals forming the backbone of the team. Now, however, FC Bayern are once again providing several key players – and at a time when the club is unbeaten in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

A stroke of luck for Nagelsmann: „FC Bayern’s run means a lot to me as national coach.“ The coach emphasized that although he does not like to be dependent on others, in his role he is „super dependent on the clubs“.

FCB style should also shape the DFB

Nagelsmann is particularly impressed by Munich’s aggressive forward defending and wants to see exactly the same behavior in the national team: „They are welcome to continue with us with the same intensity.“

The national coach also wants to transfer the Bayern school to the DFB team in attack. Under Vincent Kompany, FCB score many goals after quick combinations and winning the ball – with just one touch. „These are not always great combinations, but often ball wins that they play with one touch and finish with a lot of creativity and often a brilliant moment,“ explained Nagelsmann.

The national team, on the other hand, had recently been „a little too sluggish“ and needed „too many contacts“ in the final third. More risk, pace and spontaneity should now follow – following Bayern’s example.
