Ibrahima Konaté (25) became the first Frenchman to win the Premier League with Liverpool as the Reds put Tottenham to the sword (5-1) to confirm a record-equalling 20th English League title. The France international centre-back played an instrumental part in Liverpool’s quest to reclaim the Premier League for the first time since 2020, forming an ever-solid partnership at the back with club captain Virgil van Dijk.

Konaté was certain Liverpool would take the opportunity to mathematically confirm their league title on the first occasion, given the turnout at Anfield. “It’s unbelievable, honestly. As soon as we got to the stadium, I knew we would win, ” Konaté told Canal+. “It was special. What we felt was unprecedented. The players in the team bus were not even in their usual spots. We were all on our toes, watching the fans. I have no words to describe it.”

For Arne Slot’s debut season in the Anfield dugout, Liverpool have been in a class of their own in the Premier League. The Reds have won 25 of their 34 games, drawing five and only losing two, against Nottingham Forest and Fulham FC. No team has scored more goals than Liverpool’s 80 and the Reds also boast the second-best defense in the country. Only second-placed Arsenal conceded fewer goals than Liverpool. “Honestly, it’s exceptional”, the France centre-back added. “Although there are a couple games remaining, we steamrolled the league, and it’s done, eh?
