Real Madrid’s win over Mallorca on Thursday night helped Los Blancos reach the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, but the win was far from easy.
Despite entering as the favourites, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were forced to earn the win the hard way as Jagba Arrasate’s men put up tremendous pressure.
Only a late own goal and another from Rodrygo Goes helped modify the scoreboard in Real Madrid’s favor and made it look convincing.
Speaking to the media after the win, Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes expressed his joy in finding the back of the net and how it was special for him.
“I am happy for the victory and another goal with this shirt on my birthday. I focused on the goal and I thank Lucas for his assist, which was perfect.”
Commenting on the team’s performance on the night, the Brazilian said,
“In the first half, we played well despite not scoring. In the second half, we continued to insist and the goal came. We have all had commitment, defending together and giving everything for the team.”
On the team’s improvement in recent months and how they have been going from strength to strength, Rodrygo said,
“We are improving every day and we want the first title of the year to gain confidence for the rest of the season.”
The youngster also gave his opinion on the upcoming El Clasico finale and what fans can expect on the night.
“It’s going to be a difficult game, we’re prepared and we want the title.”
Rodrygo then went on to praise his teammate, Jude Bellingham, who has enjoyed a stunning return to form.
“Jude is very well. At the beginning of the season, it was hard for him, but he had his head up and worked a lot. The results have arrived in the end.”
