PSG head coach Luis Enrique has assumed full responsibility for the controversial decision to exclude Gianluigi Donnarumma (26) from his squad, despite the Italian goalkeeper’s heroics during PSG’s title-winning run in the Champions League. Despite Donnarumma’s contractual stand-off with PSG, Luis Enrique, has confirmed that replacing the Italian with France international goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was a technical decision.

I can only say good things about Gigio Donnarumma“, Luis Enrique said in his pre-game presser on the eve of the UEFA Super Cup outing against Tottenham Hotspur. “He’s one of the best players in his position, without a doubt, and he’s even better as a person, but we were looking for a different profile of goalkeeper.

PSG signed Chevalier from Ligue 1 rivals Lille OSC in a reported €55m deal. The 23-year-old is expected to make his debut against Thomas Frank’s Spurs considering Donnarumma has not even made the trip to Udine. The Italy international confirmed on Tuesday that he would leave Les Parisiens. The AC Milan Academy product has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City.
