Wayne Rooney has rubbished comparisons between the current Arsenal team and Manchester United's Champions League and Premier League double-winning team from 2007-08.

Rooney formed part of aManchester United team that won both trophies in 2007-08, a team often considered one of the best of the Premier League era.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United won three consecutivePremier League titles between 2007 and 2009, lifting the Champions League alongside their league success in 2008, after beating Chelsea on penalties in the final.

Arsenal are aiming to match that achievement this season, and currently lead the Premier League and Champions League standings.

The Gunners won 3-1 at Inter Milan on Tuesday night, to make it seven straight wins in theChampions League for the first time. The win continued the club's perfect record in Europe this season and confirmed automatic progress to the last 16 with a game to spare.

Despite that achievement, Rooney told ex-Arsenal forward Theo Walcott that any match between hisManchester United team and Walcott's former side would have been a mismatch.

Speaking live onAmazon Prime, Walcott asked Rooney how the two teams compared.

"Would your '08 team compete, well you would compete against this team, but how does it compare to your 2008 team," Walcott asked.

"That was the best team that I ever played against. This squad, compared to that one (how does it compare)?" Walcott asked.

"We'd batter them," Rooney instantly replied, before following up on Walcott's laughter to reiterate his point.

"I think we would, I have to be honest," he added.
