VfL Wolfsburg's Swedish international Mattias Svanberg appears to be a candidate for Werder Bremen to replace the sought-after midfielder Jens Stage. Both Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung and DeichStube report Daniel Thioune’s side showed interest in the 27-year-old.
Svanberg has a contract until 2027, but Wolfsburg are rather interested in cashing in on him after their first-ever relegation. The central midfielder played in 101 Bundesliga games in four years before appearing in the relegation/promotion playoff defeat to Paderborn.
The reports confirmed Werder Bremen are only looking to advance in negotiations if Stage’s transfer to TSG Hoffenheim materializes. Bremen demand more than €10 million for the Danish international after the ten-goal season by the 29-year-old.
Wolfsburg’s valuation of Svanberg is still unclear. However, they’re not in a favorable position due to their relegation and his contract situation. The former Bologna player scored within seconds of his World Cup debut against Tunisia.
