West Brom have appointed James Morrison as permanent head coach after a remarkable fight to secure Championship safety. The club confirmed the decision following a 10-match unbeaten run that sealed survival with a game to spare.

Morrison began his third interim spell earlier this season with Albion sliding towards League One. He steadied the side and kept them up before the final day.

Across his three caretaker stints, the former midfielder has overseen 14 games, losing only one. He made 341 appearances for Albion. The length of his contract has not been disclosed.

He now steps up permanently ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, with immediate focus on preparing for Hillsborough.

Morrison described himself as honoured and humbled to lead the club, and highlighted recent togetherness across players, staff, directors and supporters as a driving force. He wants to use that energy to set Albion back on course for success.

He thanked everyone for their efforts during his interim spell, praising fans for backing the team to safety. He recalled the finish against Ipswich, saying it felt like Albion against the world, with the stands matching the players’ intensity, and called for more of the same.
