West Brom have been handed a boost as influential coach Matt Gill commits his future to Albion amid a reshuffle of James Morrison’s backroom team.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Gill arrived shortly after Morrison took caretaker charge and was credited as a key figure in last season’s push to Championship survival.

Norwich-based Gill will serve as assistant head coach. He has previously worked as Russell Martin’s assistant, and despite Martin becoming Leicester boss earlier this month, Gill has chosen to stay at The Hawthorns under Morrison.

Morrison has also added Tony McMahon and Gavin Strachan to his staff as first-team coaches.

McMahon is a former Middlesbrough team-mate of Morrison. Strachan has coached at Celtic since 2020 and was previously number two at Doncaster and Peterborough, and he is the son of former Scotland manager Gordon.

Spanish coach Damia Abella has departed after three seasons, having first joined during Carlos Corberan’s tenure.

Long-serving Leigh Downing returns to the under-21s head coach role after stepping up to support Morrison in the final few months of last season.

Boaz Myhill continues as goalkeeper coach.
