FLW provides the latest updates on Albion’s search for a new boss.

West Brom remain on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Eric Ramsay last week.

The Welshman’s 44-day reign in the Albion hotseat was brought to an end after a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic, which meant the Baggies boss had failed to record a single victory from the nine Championship games he was in charge of.

After completing his media duties, Ramsay, alongside assistant Dennis Lawrence, were called up to the boardroom by controlling shareholder Shilen Patel and told they were no longer part of the football club.

It means the Black Country outfit are now on the search for their third permanent manager of the season and fourth new boss since Carlos Corberan departed 14 months ago, highlighting the decline the club has been on since the Spaniard’s exit.

After Ramsay’s departure, club legend James Morrison was once again placed in interim charge of the team, but he failed to have any influence as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Oxford United last weekend to really damage their hopes of second-tier survival.

The U’s had not scored a goal at home since Boxing Day, but Albion gifted the opposition two strikes in the opening 26 minutes from two set-pieces, as goals from Stanley Mills and former Albion loanee Will Lankshear cancelled out Ollie Bostock’s deflected effort.

It leaves the Baggies 21st, with Leicester City’s defeat at home to Norwich City ensuring that Albion, for at least the time being, haven’t fallen into the dreaded relegation dropzone.

But their fortunes need to turn around quickly if Albion are to remain a second-tier side next season, and the introduction of a new manager could help spark some positivity, with the Baggies hierarchy seemingly having one last roll of the dice to make in order to save their Championship skins.

Here at FLW, we round-up the latest news surrounding West Brom’s managerial search.

West Brom considering another reunion with Tony Mowbray

As per a report by Football Insider, ex-West Brom boss Tony Mowbray could be in line for a shock return to The Hawthorns, with the Baggies considering bringing the 62-year-old back as a short-term fix to their current woes.

Journalist Wayne Veysey has claimed preliminary talks have been held by the Championship club with Mowbray, along with his long-term number two, Mark Venus.

An appointment of Mowbray would be until the end of the season, with the Baggies then hopeful of naming a long-term manager in the summer, hopefully with their Championship place intact.

It would be an almighty surprise to see the ex-Middlesbrough boss return given he joined and departed the club in the middle of 2025, overseeing just five wins in 17 matches during his second stint in charge that saw Albion’s play-off hopes fade away.

Mowbray had also questioned the players’ bravery and intensity following a defeat to Derby County which led to his sacking, so it raises the question of why he would want to return to coach some of the players that he slammed just short of a year ago.

Sean Dyche not interested in West Brom job

Another report from Football Insider has shed light on West Brom’s chances of landing Sean Dyche, but they have revealed the 54-year-old has no interest in taking over at The Hawthorns.

Dyche is currently out of work after his dismissal from Nottingham Forest earlier this month, and he has previously been in charge at Everton and Burnley in the top-flight.

But it is believed Dyche is not keen on taking the step down to the Championship, with his sights firmly set on remaining in the Premier League.

Therefore, West Brom will have to pursue other targets, with the former Reds boss unlikely to consider a move to the relegation-threatened side.

Overall, it’s hardly surprising to see a move for Dyche be a non-starter, as there is hardly any incentive for Dyche to swap a Premier League survival race for a team all the way down at the bottom end of the Championship.

After a turbulent time dealing with controversial Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, Dyche is most likely wanting to put his feet up and assess his options heading into next season, with the right opportunity likely to not arrive with just a few months remaining until the close of the 2025-26 campaign.

James Morrison responds to assistance question after Oxford United blow

Speaking to BBC Radio WM (at 3:20) following West Brom’s defeat at Oxford United, interim boss James Morrison confirmed that he isn’t thinking about seeking any extra help on the touchline to aid his efforts of keeping Albion in the Championship, but is instead looking to put the message across to the players of where it all went wrong at the Kassam Stadium.

When questioned by West Brom reporter Steve Hermon about whether he needed an experienced figure alongside him, Morrison replied: “It’s not what I’m thinking about at the moment.

“I just want to stew on this, get into it fully, look at what the problems are, is it the players I’m picking? Do I need to freshen it up? Do I need to be ultra boring, go 4-5-1, put loads of big lads up, play for set plays? I don’t know.

“I think you can tell I’m a bit frustrated because that was a massive game for us today and we put in a performance like that.”

It will be intriguing to see whether someone with a more experienced coaching background can come in and help both Morrison and the players. Former Baggies boss Darren Moore is well favoured by the bookies, while some Albion supporters have called for a reunion with Slaven Bilic, after the Croat guided the Black Country outfit to the Premier League back in 2020.
