West Brom are moving towards appointing James Morrison as their permanent head coach after an impressive revival under the interim boss. Albion are unbeaten in 10 and have secured Championship survival.
"All I'm concentrating on is getting to the end of the season." "Realistically, there's going to be a lot of conversation." "I'll give my thoughts and I'm sure the club will have their opinions." "Let's just get to the end of the season and have a discussion." He was speaking to the Express & Star.
The former Baggies midfielder took interim charge for the second time this season, the third of his career, following Eric Ramsay's nine-game spell. Defeat in his opening match prompted him to call out some players, then Albion embarked on a 10-game unbeaten run that underpinned safety.
A win over Watford secured survival, then an EFL points deduction meant they still needed a point against Ipswich to be sure. They claimed it, confirming Championship status with one match remaining.
Momentum around Morrison's candidacy has grown, with former team-mates Shane Long and Gareth Barry saying he had done enough to take the job. A supporters' poll this week showed 96 per cent in favour of his appointment.
With one game to go at Sheffield Wednesday, the club appear to be edging closer to naming him as permanent successor to Ramsay. It is unclear whether any agreement will be reached before the weekend, but it is highly likely he will become the permanent man in The Hawthorns dugout.
