West Bromwich Albion are facing the prospect of a points deduction after an alleged breach of the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules, with the timing and outcome still unclear.

The club said in a statement that it believes it has fully complied with the rules and will continue cooperating with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit to resolve the issue. It also stressed that on-pitch matters remain the priority, with James Morrison’s side aiming to stay above the bottom three over the final four games.

Under PSR, clubs must file their 24/25 accounts by 31 December, after which compliance is assessed. If a breach is alleged, a compliance report is issued and the club has 14 days to respond. A hearing must then be held within 28 days, which means it could fall after the final day.

The sanction framework sets a three-point penalty for breaches up to £2m. If losses reach £4m, the deduction is four points. Mitigation can apply where losses have reduced year on year, which could return one point if any penalty is imposed.

Initial reports have described Albion’s alleged breach as minimal, though details of the process and any sanction remain unknown. Supporters of Albion and relegation rivals have been left to speculate, while the team aim to collect as many points as possible. Should any deduction follow, it appears likely the club would challenge it through EFL channels first, with court action possible if required.
