The Baggies may be on red alert now, with Russell Martin potentially on the brink of being dismissed.

Southampton could be set to sack Russell Martin shortly after the international break amid links to West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan.

According to TEAMtalk, the Saints are one game away from sacking Martin, who has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League during the early stages of this season.

Having secured promotion with the South Coast side at the end of last term, and with the club investing quite a lot in their squad during the summer, Martin would have been hopeful of enjoying a respectable start to the campaign.

However, with some of their signings likely to be more useful in the long term than they are now, the Saints were perhaps expected to be one of the top-tier strugglers during the 2024/25 campaign.

Still, they would have wanted to pick up more points than they currently have, winning just a single point out of a possible 21 from their opening seven league games.

If the Saints fail to improve their form in the coming weeks, they will be at real risk of being relegated at the end of this term, having failed to pick up anywhere near enough points.

Their situation may not be catastrophic at this stage, and the mountain they have to climb is not insurmountable, but the gap between 17th and Martin's side will widen if the latter aren't careful.

They may have performed well at times against Arsenal last weekend, even taking the lead at the Emirates Stadium, but their only point of the campaign came against Ipswich Town at home.

Considering the Tractor Boys are another team that may struggle this season, that wasn't an impressive result for the Saints, who would have wanted to take advantage of this game by securing all three points.

Unfortunately, they were unable to do that, and Martin now seems to be on the brink of being dismissed.

According to TEAMtalk, Martin is one game away from being dismissed.

The Saints' board are reportedly ready to axe Martin if the team loses against Leicester City after the international break.

Club officials are already identifying potential targets ahead of a potential managerial change - and it remains to be seen who's on their list.

Back in September, it was reported that West Bromwich Albion's boss Carlos Corberan was on their radar. With this in mind, the Baggies may be on high alert and keeping a close eye on the situation at St Mary's.

Carlos Corberan would need to think carefully about Southampton job

Corberan is currently in the middle of a project at Albion.

Shilen Patel has backed him and with a change of ownership happening, The Hawthorns is a better place to be now.

However, Corberan will want to test himself at the top level at some point, with or without his current team.

It remains to be seen whether a move to St Mary's would appeal to him though, with the Saints currently at the bottom end of the table.

There are no guarantees that he would take the job if offered it, so it will be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming weeks.
