West Bromwich Albion’s independent supporters’ trust has asked the EFL for clarity on the club’s financial charge. The trust is independent of the club and separate to the Albion Assembly and Fan Advisory Board.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the group wrote to the league after this week’s charge and will update supporters.

Albion face possible sanctions in the coming weeks after an EFL charge arising from a CFRU compliance report. The case covers the three-year cycle ending 2024/25 and club lawyers will attend a hearing. The club insists it has complied with profit and sustainability rules and wants the matter resolved.

The matter is understood to relate to historical loans taken under former owner Guochuan Lai. Two MSD Holdings loans totalling £28 million were taken, which current owner Shilen Patel has vowed to repay by December’s deadline. The PSR debate is said to concern £5 million interest that Albion believed sat with owners Bilkul, not the club.

If found to be a minor breach above the permitted £41.5 million losses across three seasons, Albion could face a points deduction. That could threaten their Championship status at this late stage of the season.

EFL guidelines describe the disciplinary process as private and confidential. A hearing is required within 28 days of the CFRU report and is expected by the end of April.

Any sanctions must be applied in the season after the breach, so before this season ends for Albion.
