FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on Albion’s links to Svante Ingelsson.
While West Brom would like to focus on plans for next season, they have been put on hold due to their dispute with the EFL.
The Baggies had secured mathematical safety after a convincing 3-0 victory over Watford at The Hawthorns, but there’s still some doubt over that after The Telegraph’s John Percy stated that the Black Country outfit had been charged by the EFL with an alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules during the 2024-25 campaign, meaning a minor points deduction is possible.
West Brom have since responded that they have fully complied within the rules and haven’t made any breaches, with a hearing expected later this month to resolve the issue.
Albion will be hopeful a deduction won’t have any lasting effect on their survival bid, with the team performing brilliantly under the guidance of interim boss James Morrison.
Meanwhile, some links about transfer plans next season have been brought to the surface, with the Baggies reportedly still keen on adding Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Svante Ingelsson to their ranks.
A report by The Star has revealed Albion are on of a host of Championship sides interested in securing the Swede’s signature, and he should be available for a return back to the second tier as the Owls prepare for life back in League One.
Of course, Albion were linked with Ingelsson in the final hours of the January transfer window by journalist Alan Nixon, so the Baggies do have a long-standing interest and could regnite it going into the 2026-27 campaign.
With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on whether he would like to see Albion make a move for Ingelsson this coming summer.

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has admitted Svante Ingelsson should only be a squad player if he arrived to B71, with the club needing a more mobile midfielder next season to improve in that department.
Callum told FLW: “I think Ingelsson’s done very well in a poor Sheffield Wednesday side this season, so it would be difficult to excel, but I think that mobility may be an issue with him.
“Outside of Molumby and perhaps Diakite, at a push, we’ve not really got much legs in midfield. Our only three midfield options have been Molumby, Diakite and Mowatt with Whitwell on the fringes.
“If we are to target a new central midfielder this summer then I’d want someone with a bit more mobility than Ingelsson, although I think he could end up being a decent depth option if we did end up signing him.”

While Svante Ingelsson won’t earn many plaudits playing for a side rooted to the foot of the table, there is a definitely a player there that can thrive for another second tier side, and it could well be West Brom.
Ingelsson’s versatility is a huge plus for any team, with the Swede playing mainly in a defensive midfield role, but also able to get into more advanced positions if needed.
Ingelsson will be driven to play at as high a level as possible, while his physical attributes could be a real bonus to protecting the backline and ensuring the team continues putting up impressive defensive numbers under James Morrison, should he be given the full-time role.
The midfielder may not get regular starting opportunities just yet due to how well Ousmane Diakite has occupied that role under Morrison, but it must be said that Albion do lack depth in that position should an injury occur, so having Ingelsson on the books could be worth while over such a demanding Championship schedule.
With an array of clubs interested in his signature, it’ll soon come to pass how committed Albion are to bringing him to the Black Country, but he could well be a shrewd asset given his ability to impress in a very poor Owls side.
