The Baggies are aiming to return to the Premier League at the fourth time of asking under Tony Mowbray but have had to navigate through economic hardship under controlling shareholder Shilen Patel.

Albion were placed under an EFL-imposed business plan last summer, with the club working closely with the organisation to ensure no Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) were broken.

In a transitional process under the Florida-based businessman, West Brom will have to continue to sell senior figures in order to drive down the wage bill so fresh investment can be put into the club.

Albion currently possess a talented squad to compete towards the top end of the table, with a number of players earning respectable salaries at the second tier level.

Here at Football League World, we reveal who West Brom’s best paid player is and whether Tony Mowbray is getting value for money.

We must stress all salaries are an estimate from Capology.

Daryl Dike is West Brom’s estimated best paid player

According to Capology, it is estimated American international Daryl Dike is West Brom’s highest paid permanent player, earning a weekly wage of £32,308.

This equates to an annual package of over £1.6 million, with the Baggies estimated to pay more than £3.3 million for his services as the 24-year-old currently has two years remaining on his deal.

Dike takes a significant chunk of the estimated £416,193 paid weekly for the entire squad, with Albion believed to be paying over £21 million per year on player salaries.

Tony Mowbray isn’t getting value for money out of Daryl Dike

With West Brom spending a reported £7 million fee for Daryl Dike’s services, the American hasn’t had an opportunity to repay the faith shown in him after suffering a number of devastating injury blows.

His first injury absence came after suffering a hamstring issue in a 3-0 victory over Peterborough United in January 2022, which was only his second appearance and start for the club.

After the departure of Valerien Ismael, Steve Bruce would only be able to call upon the frontman once throughout his eight-month tenure in B71, and after appearing on the opening day of the 2022/23 season, the striker was hit with a thigh issue which would keep him out for another three months.

However, his most consistent run of games in blue and white stripes arrived as Carlos Corberan joined in October 2022, with the Spaniard handing Dike a run of 22 straight appearances from November through to April, which saw him record seven goals and one assist, before the first of two Achilles-related injuries.

Dike returned to action at the turn of the following year, marking it with his last goal for the club in a routine 4-1 victory over Aldershot Town in the FA Cup.

But following four substitute cameos, the striker's rotten luck would return once more, as he was stretchered off in the second half of a pulsating 2-2 draw with eventual promotion winners, Ipswich Town, and is still waiting to make an eagerly anticipated return.

While Dike has given Albion little value for the money paid for him, he has proved in short spells that he can be a regular goalscorer at this level, and Mowbray will be hoping he can be the man to keep Dike healthy and see him return to being a dangerous and imposing forward in the second tier.
