James Morrison is keeping a close eye on Tammer Bany, seeking to help the “embarrassed” attacker feel supported as he returns to Albion training. He says the 22-year-old is desperate to get back on the pitch.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, he underwent thigh surgery at the end of December and has made five substitute appearances in 13 months, including a stoppage-time cameo in the 3-1 defeat at QPR on 6 December.
Bany joined last year in a £3.3 million move from Randers in his birth country Denmark.
“Tammer's very keen,” Morrison said. “I think for him he just wants to get back onto the pitch and show what he can do.” He called Bany a day-to-day case, with decisions to follow training.
He will not feature at Blackburn on Monday, and it remains to be seen whether he is in contention for Millwall next Friday night. “He's young, eager to impress, so it's important that I touch base with him and he feels the love.”
Bany has pledged his international future to Jordan and has played more for them than Albion this season. Jordan have qualified for this summer’s World Cup, and if fit he could be the club’s only representative in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He has been cited as a major recruitment failure under former sporting director and club president Andrew Nestor, who left in January. Bany remains the second most expensive signing under Bilkul, behind striker Aune Heggebo.
