The Hammers haven’t competed in the second tier since 2012, and Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping to guide the club to promotion at the first attempt.

It is going to be a busy summer for the London outfit, who have already agreed one major sale for a key first team player in Mateus Fernandes.

Tottenham Hotspur have officially signed the midfielder in a transfer worth £85 million, with the 21-year-old leaving the Irons after just one year.

Further outgoings are likely between now and the 1 September transfer deadline, but there will also be no shortage of incomings either.

It will be a busy few weeks between now and when the first round of the new campaign gets underway in August, with West Ham away to Burnley in their opening fixture.

It has been reported by Claret & Hugh that Callum Wilson is concerned about his level of playing time under Espirito Santo if he does extend his contract with West Ham.

The forward is believed to still be in talks with the Hammers over a potential deal despite having interest from elsewhere.

The 34-year-old proved an important part of the team during the final months of last season, as he contributed a total of seven goals from 32 appearances in the Premier League.

However, his contract has now expired from the start of July, and is free to discuss terms with other clubs.

It was reported earlier this week that Brentford are keen on a deal to bring the striker to the club for next season.

Hull City and Coventry City have both also been linked with Wilson, who could make his return to the Premier League.

The former Bournemouth and Newcastle United star has a tally of 95 top flight goals in his career.

Wilson joined West Ham last summer following his exit from the Magpies, signing a one-year deal with the club.

It remains to be seen what his decision will be on his future, but it is understood that concerns over his level of playing time could lead to him moving elsewhere.

The 34-year-old started on just 11 occasions in the Premier League, coming off the bench 21 times.

Callum Wilson could be quite useful for West Ham in the Championship

Wilson showed last season that he still has what it takes to contribute at a Premier League level, so he is definitely worth keeping around in the Championship for West Ham.

While the temptation of the Premier League will be alluring anyway, if his level of game time will be similar at West Ham or Brentford, then it’s a relatively straightforward decision for him.

The Bees are a team on an upwards trajectory under Keith Andrews, and they narrowly missed out on European football, so there will be exciting opportunities for someone like Wilson there next season.

It will be a blow to West Ham to lose someone that could be useful in the second tier, but if he’s not a real part of Espirito Santo’s plans, then it shouldn’t have too big of an impact anyway.
