Flamengo are increasingly close to sealing a deal for Lucas Paquetá from West Ham, with the midfielder left out of recent matches and training as he seeks a return to Brazil. Among West Ham supporters, there is gratitude for his contribution but disappointment at the timing, mid-season and during a relegation fight.
“No one wanted to see him go. I would be happy if he stayed, but if he leaves I am glad he is returning to his home club in his own country, which is probably better for him and his family. It seems kind of confirmed, but we will see.”
The fans were speaking to TNT Sports.
“He has had a tough few years with the investigations and everything, and I also think he is too good for West Ham. Maybe it should have been done differently, but the board are at fault as well.”
“It is disappointing because when he scored that goal the message felt like, yes, I am staying. Then, in the middle of the season when we are having more difficulties, he decides to go. It is sad and hard because he made it very clear he wanted to stay.”
On Monday, Paquetá triggered a wave of MDEV (Meu Deus, Ele Vem) among Flamengo fans after the club shared old photos of him in the shirt from 2016 and he replied with red and black hearts.
Flamengo and West Ham remain in talks, with the fee expected to be around 40 million euros, approximately R$ 250 million. Meetings took place last week, and further discussions with both clubs and the player’s representatives are anticipated in the coming days.
