West Ham: Niclas Füllkrug shares his first impressions of Malick Diouf

The German striker praises the commitment and technical qualities of the young Senegalese defender.

Niclas Füllkrug spoke this weekend about his new teammate Malick El Hadji Diouf, who was signed by West Ham this summer. The German striker praised the potential and team spirit of the Senegalese defender, who has already settled into the London squad.

Officially transferred to West Ham on July 15, Malick Diouf wasted no time joining the Hammers’ group during pre-season. The former Slavia Prague defender, arriving in England for the first time, has already built bonds with his new teammates. Niclas Füllkrug has not hidden his excitement about the qualities shown by the young Senegal international. In an exclusive interview on the Hammers' website, the German international highlighted the defender’s potential.

"I think he’s a great addition to our team. He’s a very physically strong guy, he puts in a lot of quality crosses every match and I’ve looked at his stats, which are impressive. He’s a very good player. He also did very well in the UEFA Europa League (with SK Slavia Prague), so we’re happy to have him and we’ll see how we progress this season," he said.

That’s not all. Later, after a training session, the 32-year-old German striker continued to heap praise on Malick El Hadji Diouf, speaking about his team spirit.

"I like the way this guy plays and I like how he communicates with me. From day one, he came up to me and said, 'I’ve watched videos of you and I saw that you get between the defenders and go to the near post and I’ll try to find you,' and I loved that. That’s exactly what you need as a striker—players who want to help you. For me, he’s a fantastic option for scoring goals. I’m very grateful to have a teammate like him," said Niclas Füllkrug.
