The 2025/26 Premier League season is under wraps following Sunday's thrilling slate of final matches. Here is what went down in England on Matchday 38.
All eyes were on the relegation zone during the final day of action as the last spot in the 2026/27 Premier League season was up for grabs.
It was West Ham and Tottenham battling for it, with the Hammers occupying 18th place prior to kick-off.
Spurs fans welcomed their team with heaps of support outside their home stadium, but were made to wait a while for any celebrations in the match against Everton.
With the first shot on target all game, João Palhinha bundled home his own rebound, and the stadium erupted in the 42nd minute.
West Ham did, however, ensure things were tense for the final 20 minutes of action as Valentin Castellanos headed home at the back post against Leeds across London.
The crowd erupted, and did so once more minutes later as Jarrod Bowen scored his first league goal since January for 2-0. A late strike by Callum Wilson from distance changed the scoring, but didn't change the mood.
The victory over Leeds (just their 10th of the season) was not enough to better Tottenham's result, and West Ham dropped to the Championship for the first time since 2011.
Multiple legends across England were bidding farewell on Sunday and that includes at Liverpool.
Andy Robertson and Mo Salah said goodbye to the Anfield faithful, with the Egyptian king registering one more goal contribution during the event.
Salah assisted Curtis Jones, who was crashing the box, to become the club's all-time Premier League assist holder (93) and help step one foot closer to securing Champions League football. The combination turned things 1-0 just before the hour mark.
Brentford, who were hunting Europe themselves, pulled one back via Kevin Schade less than 10 minutes later, but they couldn't find another push within them late on to turn things all around. The Bees, therefore, finish ninth and miss out.
Perhaps the most surprising result of the day saw Sunderland secure a spot in the Europa League thanks to a 2-1 victory over 10-man Chelsea. The moment arrives at the end of the same season they were just promoted in!
The Black Cats grabbed the lead via Trai Hume's volley in the box in the 24th minute, and a Malo Gusto own goal turned things 2-0 almost immediately after the break.
Cole Palmer, likely frustrated from not being included in the England World Cup squad, showed he can still make a difference on the pitch and drove home a long-range belter.
Unfortunately for him, teammate Wesley Fofana was shown a red card, which stifled Chelsea's ability to turn things around. It means the Blues miss out on Europe altogether ahead of Xabi Alonso's arrival in the dugout next season.
Chelsea had a league-high eight red cards throughout the 2025/26 season.
Champions Arsenal were handed a guard of honour at the first opportunity, with Crystal Palace stepping back and applauding.
The Gunners picked up three points on the final day via a 2-1 victory, which started thanks to Gabriel Jesus. After initially hitting the post, he drove a low roller home at the near post in the 41st minute.
Noni Madueke then struck a smooth left-footed volley after the break to double the lead. Not a bad moment after being called up to the England squad, either!
Jean-Philippe Mateta pulled one back just before the end of regulation, but it was too little too late for the Eagles to stun the Champions.
Meanwhile, second-place Manchester City hoped to give the departing Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones a celebratory send-off.
An in-form Antoine Semenyo helped them do almost that, too. The 26-year-old, who recently scored the winning goal in the FA Cup, went across the net for his 21st of the season to open the scoring.
Coming out after the break, however, the Europa League winners struck back via Ollie Watkins immediately. And not once but twice!
The 30-year-old first turned and swivelled in the box after some pinball in the area, before being sent through on the right wing and cutting back on the ball to find the bottom left of the net.
Villa subsequently spoiled the Etihad send-off!
Some of the other results from around the ground kept us on our toes, too.
Bruno Fernandes not only broke the Premier League's all-time seasonal assist record but added another goal to his name as Manchester United beat Brighton 3-0.
It was an impressive end-of-season push with Michael Carrick in charge. Just how high might they go next season, especially with Guardiola now out at their bitter rivals?
The Seagulls, despite the hammering, still managed to secure Europa League football.
Then, two goals on either side of the break between Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth kept things interesting for the European slots.
Morgan Gibbs White perhaps showed Tuchel what he'll be missing at the World Cup when he scored his 15th of the Premier League season, second most of any other Englishman.
His goal was eventually cancelled out when Marcus Tavernier's powerful strike proved too much to handle, and it went over the line.
The Cherries needed a late push to maybe reach the Champions League, but instead, it's the Europa League and Europe in general for the first time.
Elsewhere, Fulham beat an unimpressive Newcastle side 2-0 while the Premier League's bottom two, Burnley and Wolves, played out a 1-1 draw.
And with that, we'll see you next season. Bring on the World Cup!
