Sky Germany reports West Ham have submitted a new bid for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer.
The 30-year-old is on West Ham’s list of goalkeepers, and the previous bid they had submitted was below the €5m valuation Werder Bremen has of Zetterer. Despite having a contract until 2027, Bremen have put Zetterer up for sale.
The reason Bremen has done this is that they have high hopes for Mio Backhaus. They believe the 21-year-old has the potential to be their future number one, and a potential sale of Zetterer would allow Backhaus to be promoted.
Backhaus’ promotion would be another indication of the current trend under Horst Steffen, which is to make the team younger. Bremen have already offloaded Marvin Ducksch to Birmingham City this summer and will likely look to replace him with André Silva. Their marquee signing of the summer has been Samuel Mbangula from Juventus.
So far, Bremen have only signed Mbangula and Maximilian Wöber from Leeds United.
