West Midlands pubs are preparing for a late-night crowd as England face Mexico in a World Cup knockout tie at one in the morning.
ExpressAndStar.com reports that extended opening hours are in place, with venues from Birmingham to Cannock readying big screens and overnight service.
The British Oak in Kingswinford has a ticketed event, its five pound entry waived with your first drink. Wolverhampton’s Hogs Head will also screen the match and is managing entry.
Other confirmed sites include Wolverhampton’s The Ashmore Inn, The Angel Inn Bar and Grill and Jacks Cafe and Bar, plus Walsall’s The Farmers Boy and WS1 Live Lounge. The Grapes and The Yard in Stafford will stay open until five in the morning, while The Kingstanding Inn will show the tie in Birmingham.
Further options are Friar Park Millennium Centre in Wednesbury, The Rocket Pools Inn in Bilston, Cannock’s Royal Oak and Wednesfield’s Red Lion, plus The Crown in Bridgnorth and Habberley Social Club in Kidderminster. The Himley Fan Zone is also expected to draw large crowds with big screens, food, drink and a stadium-style feel.
With England one win from the quarter-finals, demand is likely to be strong despite the overnight start. Pubs are urging early arrival or pre-booking, and some are setting last entry times.
