What Enzo Maresca “explained” to Cole Palmer about his games this season | OneFootball

Tomorrow night Chelsea are back in action, and at the moment that usually meant appointment viewing, as the great entertainer Cole Palmer takes the pitch to bring us joy in some new form.

But that won’t be the case tomorrow, as it never is in our Thursday night schedule, because Palmer isn’t part of our Conference League squad, so he knows he will be staying in England while everyone else jets out to Greece today to prepare to face Panathinaikos.

It must be a little odd for him – he led the charge to get Chelsea into Europe least season, and now he doesn’t get to take part. He explained a little to the club’s official website about the thinking behind it and what it was like:

“Enzo explained that it was because it was only my first full season in football last year, and he wants me to be fresh this season, that’s the thinking behind it; I get more rest,” the Wythenshawe Wizard explained.

“‘It’s different but you are able to take a bit more of the game in when you’re watching. I do actually enjoy watching it all – but, of course, you wish you were playing sometimes!”

Fans miss out on Palmer entertainment factor – but other options are on the menu

We’d feel the same – we understand why he’s being rested and we wouldn’t change that, but it’s hard to watch any team which has left Palmer sitting in the stands and not feel a little short changed.

Still, we’ll get to see him this weekend against Newcastle, and will get to see other players shoot their shot tomorrow night. Someone like Mykhailo Mudryk will be bursting for a chance to show what he can do. That’s precisely what these games are for.
